Suspect arrested after hijacking truck carrying alcohol near Grasmere Top News


Cape Town - Johannesburg metro police on Friday captured one think and recuperated R3m worth of mixed refreshments, after a truck transporting alcohol was stolen at the Grasmere filling station on the N1.

Johannesburg MMC for Public Safety, Michael Sun, said the metro police office's K-9 Unit reacted to a tracker motion after the truck conveying Smirnoff Vodka was stolen.
The vehicle was followed in Bekkersdal, and the driver was discovered tied up inside the truck."The driver could affirm that three equipped suspects offloaded the products at an alternate area, and officers could track the stolen merchandise to a house in Randfontein," said Sun in an announcement.

On their way back to Johannesburg, the metro cops captured another male suspect for ownership of a stolen Toyota Tazz which had no number plates.


The two suspects are required to show up in the Randfontein Magistrate's Court one week from now.
Sun said the truck and the vodka were securely come back to the proprietor.
Grasmere has been the scene of various auto and truck hijackings.


In May, Saps and metro police captured five men, professedly part of a truck commandeering syndicate, close to the Grasmere Toll Gate on the N1, after they seized a truck conveying pharmaceutical merchandise worth around R2m.
The five suspects were captured while wearing metro police garbs and going in unmarked vehicles.


Two of the five suspects were later found to have been out on safeguard as far as concerns them in the O.R Tambo International Airport heist.
